A BRIEF HISTORY OF NAVY BLUE

Did you know the name 'navy blue' is just that, a naval blue, named after the colour of the uniforms worn by the Royal Navy?

Originally 'marine blue' the colour was contrasted with 'naval white' and used for the uniforms of the Royal Navy and subsequently adopted by other navies around the world. In many countries this has since been replaced with black to avoid fading of the colour.
